Ending a trial or cancelling a subscription never deletes anything: your work stays and you can subscribe again at any time. Closing is for when you are done with the workspace for good.
Close it
- Open Settings > Security as the workspace owner (only the owner can close it).
- Under Close this workspace, read what happens, then type your site address to confirm.
- Enter your password, and the code from your authenticator app if two-step sign-in is on. An account that signs in with Google only is asked to sign in with Google again first.
- Choose Close workspace. We email you the date it will be deleted.
What happens
- Your website goes offline at once, on its free address and on every custom domain.
- Your PayPal subscription is cancelled, so there are no further charges. If PayPal does not answer, we keep trying and you can also cancel it in your PayPal account.
- Everyone in your team is signed out and cannot use the console.
- After 30 days everything is deleted for good: pages, media, the shop with its products, orders and customers, form entries, translations and the team. We email you a week before, and again when it is done.
- We keep only a short record that the workspace existed, with its plan and billing history, for our accounts. Nightly backups keep a copy for up to 14 days, then it is gone from them too.
Changed your mind?
Sign in within the 30 days and choose Reopen workspace. Nothing is lost. If your trial or plan has ended, the site stays offline until you subscribe again from Plan and Billing. Your team can sign in again straight away.
Workspaces nobody uses
If a workspace has no paid plan and nobody signs in or edits it for 12 months, we email the owner at 11 months. Signing in or subscribing is enough to keep it. Otherwise it is closed at least 30 days after that email, and deleted 30 days after closing, like any closed workspace.
Tip: Want a copy first? Export your products, orders and customers as CSV from the Shop screens, and save any images you want to keep from the Media library, before you close.
